JUDGE ADVOCATE GENERAL'S CORPS
Although OGC is primarily comprised of civilian attorneys, a number of military
judge advocates also work within OGC on matters principally involving employment
and environmental law. The areas of law practiced principally by civilian Navy
OGC attorneys include commercial law involved in acquisition, use and
disposition of property/material, intellectual property (including patent law),
employment law, and fiscal law, including international aspects relating
thereto. The areas of law practiced principally by the Navy Judge Advocate
General's (JAG) Corps and Marine Corps Judge Advocates, on the other hand,
include military justice, operational and international law, admiralty law, tort
and similar claims, and legal assistance to service members. Both organizations
have significant practices in the areas of environmental law and ethics law and
are responsible for litigation matters arising in their respective areas of
practice.
